# Why is it important to keep your accounts reconciled

Reconciled accounts makes certain your financial statements are accurate! It means everything in your bank account is included in your accounting software with nothing omitted or double counted. You know this is the case when your accounting software shows you there is an equal dollar amount in your bank account and in your accounting software. The most helpful starting place to start with reconciling an account is your bank or credit card statements. These statements will give you an exact amount your balance was at on a specific date. By finding the last point in time where your accounts were in balance, you can work forward and remove any duplicated or missing transactions from your list of transactions.

Accounting software like QuickBooks online will keep a record of your statements and ending balances. Keeping reconciled accounts will allow you to be certain that your financial statements are accurate!
